Where it all began.

I’m often asked how I came to be a photographer. The answer is simple, and one that continues to drive me daily. I started my journey into photography to capture my daughter growing up.

Of course I’ve branched out considerably since I first picked up a camera back in 2006, but I always return to both my daughter and kids in general as subjects I love. I am constantly amazed by the innocence, the wonder, the purity of kids and their actions.

I love the fact that I can capture these little moments, keeping the stories safe for that time in the future when my little one isn’t so little. And what stories – from moments of unbridled joy, to moments of sadness, each one I will treasure and hope that one day, my daughter will treasure them too.

If you’re a photographer reading this – what is your inspiration? What made you take that first frame?

  1. In some ways it was for a similar reason – to document life (albeit without children). I began snapping away at my life. I had a LiveJournal blog that I would post photos of events, activities or just weekly roundups of what I was doing at the time.

The more time I invested into photography, the more I enjoyed it and the more my skill grew. I slowly began to discover the occasional photo that was more than a snap, more than just a simple picture.

I fell in love with the art, and that feeling has never gone away.
